Tytlers Cycle Racing’s Cameron Beaubier earned pole position for the two MotoAmerica Superbike races at Circuit of The Americas on Saturday morning in Texas. Then he let the cat out of the bag regarding the injured right wrist he suffered in a cycling accident a week ago today.
Beaubier was on a training ride on his road bike near his home in northern California at daybreak, ventured into a construction zone that he’s ridden through a zillion times, hit a two-by-four that he didn’t see, went over the bars, and put his arms out to protect himself. In the process, he suffered an injured right wrist.
Although he’s been doing the minimal number of laps, Beaubier showed that injury or not, he’s a force to be reckoned with as he earned pole position on Saturday morning. Now comes the challenge of two 12-lap Superbike races at a physically difficult COTA.
“I wish I felt better, physically,” Beaubier said. “But we feel fast on the bike. Even with my limited laps, we’re still able to click some lap times off and stuff. Obviously, people have learned about my wrist that I messed up last Saturday. I’m just trying to push through that, and we’ll see what the race brings. I think we should be okay, but we will see how it goes. It’s both arms, but mainly the right wrist that’s giving me problems – mainly with the change of direction, but I’m sure everyone is dealing with something, and we’re just going to grit our teeth and go.”
