In anticipation of making his debut U.S. race at the 2024 Daytona 200, UK-based racer Asher Durham completed a successful test with BPM Motorsports at Homestead Miami Speedway on January 20-21. Durham, hailing from Lincoln in the United Kingdom, shook off the winter cobwebs on the BPM Motorsports Yamaha YZF-R6, running several sessions during the N2 Track Days event. He was very pleased with the top-level preparation and team support from the owner of BPM Motorsports, German Vacca.

“First, I have to thank Dave and Scott at luxeStar VIP for giving me the opportunity to test last weekend at Homestead,” Durham said. “Getting to ride with BPM Motorsports and meet German has been a great intro for me to racing in America. It’s been a dream of mine for a long time to race over here, especially the Daytona 200, because it is a huge deal and known around the world. I had a great time learning about the R6, and I had great support from German. He and his team are fantastic!

“It was a completely new track and new bike for me. I thought it would be hot and sunny in Florida, but the chilly mornings had me going a bit slower than I wanted as I learned both the track and the bike. Later in the day, and after a few sessions, I was able to pick up my pace and start to push. The Yamaha R6 is different than my G&S Racing Kawasaki 636, as it lacks some of the torque that the 636 makes. It’s like riding a two-stroke again, like back in the day when I was teammates with Brandon Paasch racing our Mahindras in the British Motostar Championship. I definitely had fun and am eager to come back and ride with BPM Motorsports again.

“Right now, I’m concentrating on adding some sponsors so that I can race the Daytona 200. I’m confident I can finish strong and claim some prize money, but everyone knows it’s not cheap to go racing. Add in my travel logistics, and I need to get some help to be at Daytona. Hopefully, we can announce the good news in a few weeks. I’d love to test my talent against some of the best racers in America and get back on track with Brandon again!”

BPM Motorsports owner German Vacca was also pleased with the progress that Durham made over the weekend and is offering Durham one of the BPM Motorsports Yamaha R6 team bikes for the 2024 Daytona 200.

“It was great to work with Asher. He’s a good guy,” commented Vacca. “He did great with our bike, and we didn’t adjust anything. We just let him ride the R6 to get used to it and the Bridgestone tires that we supply. He was fantastic out on the track, and he ran some nice lap times considering this was his first time at Homestead, and his first time in America. We will have the same bike ready for him to race at Daytona in March.  I hope he can come over to race, and I’d be happy to work with him again.”

Durham secured a remarkable third place overall in the 2023 Pirelli Junior Superstock class in the British Superbike Championship (BSB) despite missing the season’s opening round. His ride aboard a G&S Racing Kawasaki ZX-6R included one win and seven podium finishes, leaving him just six points short of second place in the championship.

After Durham races in the 2024 Daytona 200, he will return to the UK to compete in the BSB Quattro Group British Supersport series aboard the G&S Racing Kawasaki.
