American Racing’s Cameron Beaubier led the threesome of former MotoAmerica racers on opening day of Moto2 action for the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia at the Mandalika Circuit. The five-time MotoAmerica Superbike Champion slotted himself into the top 14 to provisionally make it through to Q2 with the 12th fastest time on a dry racetrack in FP2.

Beaubier’s best was a 1:37.056, 1.159 of a second off the pace of the fastest rider on the day, Inde GASGAS Aspar’s Jake Dixon. Dixon turned in a 1:35.897 to lead Mooney VR46 Racing’s Celestino Vietti, the winner of the opening round in Qatar, by .431 of a second. The provisional front row was filled by Elf Marc VDS Racing’s Sam Lowes with his 1:36.491.

Italtrans Racing’s Joe Roberts ended the day 21st and will be hoping to improve to the top 14 in FP3, which will be held this evening in the U.S.

Beaubier’s teammate Sean Dylan Kelly completed his first day at the new circuit in 27th.

FP1 was held in changing conditions with lap times some 11 seconds slower than in FP2.
