On day two of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship round at Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic, former MotoAmerica Superbike riders Garrett Gerloff and Loris Baz finished Race 1 in succession with American Gerloff beating Frenchman Baz to the finish line by a little over four seconds as the pair ended up 10th and 11th, respectively.
Earlier in the day, Gerloff was sixth in Tissot Superpole and was the highest qualifying independent rider, while fellow independent rider Baz was 11th.
Race 1 was disappointing for Gerloff after his strong Superpole. The GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team rider got off to a strong start but got stuck in the middle of the group and battled with Honda’s Iker Lecuona and Bonovo Action BMW’s Baz, eventually crossing the line in 10th.
“We had a good Tissot Superpole session,” Gerloff commented. “Starting from the second row was a strong point. In Race 1, I enjoyed a good start, but the first two corners are really tight and tough to manage, so I lost a bit of time there. Overall, the pace was fine, but unfortunately, the final position is not where we want to be. We’ll try again tomorrow. I know we can have a good result here.”
Gerloff and Baz will be back at Autodrom Most tomorrow for the Superpole Race at 11 a.m. followed by Race 2 at 2 p.m. Both times local.
