It’s been well-documented that MotoAmerica has sent a number of riders to Europe to compete in overseas national championships, as well as world championships. Joe Roberts and Cameron Beaubier immediately come to mind as they get set to compete in the 2021 Moto2 World Championships, and so does Garrett Gerloff, who will soon start his sophomore season in the Superbike World Championship.

In addition to Roberts, Beaubier, and Gerloff racing in the world championship, Rocco Landers raced in last year’s Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. And now, comes word that 2020 MotoAmerica Mini Cup by Motul 110cc and 160cc Champion Mikey Lou Sanchez will race in the Spanish National Championship this coming season.

Ten-year-old Sanchez, who is from McDade, Texas, has joined the JPino Competicion Riders Academy, and he will compete in the Cuna de Campeones Moto5 Championship.

Not only will Sanchez be racing in Spain, but according to his father Michael Sanchez, the entire family is moving to Spain to focus on Mikey Lou’s budding racing career.

But, what about the opportunity for Sanchez to defend his double Mini Cup titles? His dad assured us that Mikey Lou will try to compete in as many MotoAmerica Mini Cup by Motul rounds as his schedule will allow. That’s fair warning to Sanchez’s competition to be on the lookout for a fast rider with number-one plates on his Ohvale GP-0 during the upcoming Mini Cup five-round season.
