Garrett Gerloff finished ninth in race one at the Navarra Circuit in Spain.

GRT Yamaha’s Garrett Gerloff finished ninth in today’s first of two World Superbike races at the Navarra Circuit in Spain, the Texan slipping back to as far as 15th early in the race before making a charge that put him on the heels of eighth-placed Axel Bassani as they crossed the finish line after 23 laps.

Gerloff started the race from the third row after qualifying ninth in Superpole.

The race was won by Aruba.it Racing Ducati’s Scott Redding, the win coming just days after it was announced that the Brit will be switching to the BMW Motorrad team in 2022.

Redding beat six-time World Superbike Champion Jonathan Rea by 2.5 seconds with the Kawasaki rider some 3.3 seconds clear of his championship rival Toprak Razgatlioglu, the Turk finishing 3.5 seconds ahead of his Pata Yamaha teammate Andrea Locatelli. Kawasaki’s Alex Lowes rounded out the top five.

Rea now leads Razgatlioglu by seven points after race one of the seventh round, 286-279. Redding, with his fourth win of the season and second in a row, is third with 241 points.

Gerloff is sixth in the championship, just seven points shy of Michael Ruben Rinaldi, only two points ahead of Locatelli and three ahead of BMW’s Tom Sykes.
