Wear It Backward: Break the Silence.

If you see a MotoAmerica racer, crew member, or fan wearing a shirt backward this October, look twice. It is not a wardrobe malfunction. It is a signal: stigma has steered the conversation in the wrong direction, and the motorcycle racing community is helping turn it around.
Beginning October 10, World Mental Health Day, the Remix Racing Project is launching the 14-Day Brave Space Challenge. The idea is simple: wear your shirt backward for at least one day, explain why, and start a conversation about mental health, addiction, trauma, suicide, healing, or recovery.
The challenge was created within the racing community and is already supported by an accomplished group of MotoAmerica racers: three-time MotoAmerica champion Mathew Scholtz (#11); 2022 Stock 1000 champion and ARCH Motorcycle Racing rider and team manager Corey Alexander (#23); 2026 Royal Enfield Build.Train.Race. champion Jasmine Noelle (#711); and Mission Super Hooligan National Championship rider and Remix Racing Project co-founder Jeremy Taubman (#417). Together, they are calling on every rider, team, crew member, official, sponsor, volunteer, and fan to join the Challenge.

Why This Paddock Matters
The MotoAmerica paddock is built on competition, but it also runs on connection. Racers lend parts to rivals. Crew members work through the night. Fans follow racers, whether factory riders or privateers, from round to round. When someone crashes, the entire paddock feels it.
But many of the hardest battles never produce a red flag. Depression, addiction, trauma, and suicidal despair are often hidden behind a helmet, a team shirt, or an answer that says, “I’m fine.” The people carrying them may be racers, mechanics, corner workers, family members, or fans sitting in the grandstands or watching from home.
The Brave Space Challenge asks the racing community to bring that same instinct to show up for one another beyond the racetrack. A Brave Space is not a place where every conversation is easy or comfortable. It is a commitment to meet difficult subjects with honesty, curiosity, compassion, and responsibility.

One Shirt One Conversation
The backward shirt is designed to get noticed and serve as a conversation starter. When someone asks about it, that awkward moment becomes an opening.
Stigma has steered the conversation in the wrong direction—from openness toward silence and from understanding toward judgment. By wearing our shirts backward and speaking openly, we can begin turning it toward honesty, compassion, and support.
“We’re wearing our shirts backward because it’s time to turn the conversation around” is one thing you can say if approached about your fashion faux pas.

From there, the action can be small and real: ask someone how they are actually doing. Listen without judgment. Share part of your own story if it feels right. Remind someone that asking for help is a sign of bravery, not weakness.
Then post a photo or short video in your backward shirt, tag @RemixRacing, and challenge others to join. Riders can challenge other riders. Teams can challenge rival teams. Fans can bring their clubs, dealerships, workplaces, and families into the movement. The more visible the symbol becomes, the easier the conversation becomes.
From Awareness To Access
The challenge is not only about raising awareness. It also supports the Remix Recovery® Treatment Access Fund, which provides financial assistance to people seeking mental health or addiction treatment who cannot afford it.
Talking openly can make it safer for someone to ask for help, but when that person is ready, there also needs to be a path to treatment. This challenge is about both: changing the conversation and helping remove the financial barrier.
That mission reflects what motorcycle racing does at its best. It transforms individual courage into collective momentum. One person makes a move, others follow, and suddenly the entire field is headed in a new direction.
Take The Challenge
- Wear your shirt backward for at least one day from October 10 through October 23.

- Visit RemixRecovery.org to learn more, donate, or support the Treatment Access Fund.
In racing, a signal only works when people recognize it. A backward shirt can become a signal that says: You can talk to me. You are not alone. Help is worth seeking. Recovery is possible.
This October, the MotoAmerica community has an opportunity to lead from the front.
Wear it backward. Start the conversation. Break the silence.
