Joe Roberts put his Italtrans Racing Kalex on the front row for tomorrow’s Grand Prix of Catalunya, the Californian on the pace from the get-go and making his way directly to Q2. At the end of the Q2 session, Roberts was third and just .179 of a second from pole position with his 1:44.002.
American Racing’s Cameron Beaubier, meanwhile, had a more difficult Saturday in Spain, the Californian failing to make it out of Q1 with the ninth fastest time. Beaubier will start tomorrow’s race from the eighth row of the grid after qualifying 23rd.
Beaubier’s teammate Sean Dylan Kelly will start the GP from the 10th row of the grid after qualifying 29th.
Moto2 World Championship points leader Celestino Vietti will start from pole position on his Mooney VR46 Racing Kalex, the Italian just .008 of a second faster than Firebox HP40’s Aron Canet.
“I’m very happy with qualifying,” Roberts said in a team release. “We worked well, and the race pace is also excellent. Let’s see what we will be able to do tomorrow. I’m confident and I hope it will be a fun race.”
