Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati’s Josh Herrin earned provisional pole on Friday afternoon at Circuit of The Americas, despite the injury to his right leg suffered when he crashed in the second of two MotoAmerica Superbike races at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course three weeks ago.
“The hardest part is the gator teeth on the grooves on the curbs,” said Herrin. “If I touch my knee puck on that, it jolts my knee real bad. The hardest part now is my calf. I didn’t get the MRI because I didn’t see the need because I’m riding anyway, and there’s no surgery happening, so I just didn’t get it. After the crash, I was bent over in the garage and something in my calf popped. Like a ligament kind of pop and it hasn’t really bothered me until like a week ago. A week ago, it turned into the worst pain of the whole thing. When I’m on the bike, whenever I try to go into a right-hand corner and really get a deep bend in my leg, it just stops. It goes three-quarters and then stops. It’s like pulling a rubber band really tight to get it to go. It’s like a knife pain.”
With that being said, Herrin’s not worried about going race distance later this afternoon and tomorrow.
“I think in the race it will be better,’ Herrin said. “Right now, when I’m stopping and going, it gets tight again. Maybe, if anything, I’m riding a little bit calmer now because of it. I’m not so aggressive and think that’s helping.”
