Texan Garrett Gerloff doesn’t mind the heat, but his #31 Kawasaki WorldSBK Team ZX-10RR protested the lack of grip due to the 120° track temperatures at Cremona Circuit. Photo courtesy of Kawasaki WorldSBK Team.

Two-time MotoAmerica Supersport Champion and four-time Superbike race winner Garrett Gerloff and his Kawasaki WorldSBK Team experienced very hot working conditions during the first day of action at the Cremona Circuit in San Martino del Lago, Italy. Gerloff ended the first day on track in 18th place overall.

The excessive track temperatures did not deter Gerloff and his crew from making a small improvement in pace during FP2. Photo courtesy of Kawasaki WorldSBK Team.

Afternoon track temperatures of more than 120° Fahrenheit wreaked havoc with tire grip as the Texan lapped the 13-turn, 2.34-mile Cremona Circuit aboard his #31 Kawasaki ZX-10RR during FP2. And yet, despite the excessive track temperatures, Gerloff and his crew found a small improvement in pace during FP2.

“It was a bit warm on Friday at Cremona and that means there was not a ton of grip on the track surface,” GG31 said. “We are working as a team to try and find solutions to our problems. Little-by-little, we are working through it, and we just need a better day tomorrow.”

With all the data gathered from Friday’s two free practice sessions, there will be one more free practice session on Saturday for the Double-G and his crew to make an even greater step forward in their race setup before championship points become available.

Saturday will feature the first of two 23-lap WorldSBK races at Cremona and, on Sunday the Italian round concludes with the ten-lap Superpole Race and then a final 23-lap Race Two.
