Americans Joe Roberts and Cameron Beaubier will need to break out the boxing gloves tomorrow because the pair will have a fight on their hands in the Grand Prix of Catalunya from their starting positions on the sixth and 10th rows of the grid.

Italtrans Racing’s Roberts made it straight through to Q2 today in Spain, but he faltered when he got there and could manage no better than a 1:44.346, which was 1.3 seconds slower than pole man Remy Gardner and his Red Bull KTM Ajo Kalex. In Moto2 today, that translates to the 17th fastest time and a sixth-row starting position.

Beaubier wasn’t quick enough in any of the practice sessions to make it straight through to Q2 and he also wasn’t fast enough in Q1 to make the cut. His best lap on his American Racing Kalex was a 1:44.720, and that will force him to start 28th on the grid and on row 10.

Moto2 World Championship points leader Remy Gardner will start the race from pole position just in front of his Red Bull KTM Ajo teammate Raul Fernandez and Pertamina Mandalika SAG Team’s Bo Bendsneyder. Fernandez trails Gardner by six points in the championship point standings, 114-108.
