It’s funny how things fall into place sometimes.

The media center at Daytona International Speedway is one of the largest and most populated facilities that we visit each season. Of course, that makes sense given that Daytona is our biggest event of the year, and it draws riders, teams, and fans from countries around the world.

It draws media people from other countries, as well, including Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Famer Colin Fraser who has made an annual pilgrimage to the “World Center of Racing” since 1978. Fraser is an absolute font of wisdom about motorcycle road racing on not just a Canadian and American, but also, a global scale.

When speaking with Colin about the motorcycle road racers from his homeland of Canada, including such notables as Yvon and Miguel Duhamel, Steve Crevier, Pascal Picotte, Michel Mercier, and Frank Trombino, as well as more recent and current riders like Jordan Szoke, Ben Young, and Dylan Bauer (the latter of whom raced in this year’s DAYTONA 200), the name “Alex Dumas” came up.

A former MotoAmerica rider from Saint-Honoré, Quebec, Dumas won the inaugural MotoAmerica Junior Cup Championship in 2018 at just 15 years old on the strength of his 10 wins and 12 podium finishes that season. He moved up to the MotoAmerica Twins Cup Championship in 2019 and won that title, too, with five race victories and eight podium finishes in 11 races.

In recent years, Dumas has been racing quite successfully in the Canadian Superbike Championship (CSBK). In fact, in 2021, he became the youngest champion in CSBK history when he won the Superbike title at just 21 years old. Dumas has continued to compete in CSBK—very successfully, by the way—and he’s won races and contended for championships aboard Suzukis, Ducatis, and BMWs.

So what is Alex Dumas doing this season? It’s a question we had not only for Fraser, but also for fellow Canadian Angela Hiba, who is a former USGPRU racer, was in the media center at Daytona this year, and also just happens to be a member of Alex Dumas’ CSBK race team.

Conversations with Fraser and Hiba revealed that Dumas didn’t yet have a program put together for 2026, and he might be available and keen to return to the MotoAmerica paddock.

Dumas’ tryout with Aftercare Scheibe Racing happened so quickly that he had to wear his CSBK leathers on track at COTA. Pay no attention to those Bridgestone patches. He was testing Dunlops! Photo by Brian J. Nelson.

Enter Steve Scheibe, team owner of Aftercare Scheibe Racing, and a man who has had an affinity with Canadian riders, including the aforementioned Miguel Duhamel and Pascal Picotte, who both raced Harley-Davidson VR1000 Superbikes for Steve when he headed up H-D’s Superbike program in the 1990s. Scheibe did not yet have a rider for his team, and he was at Daytona on a reconnaissance mission to shake hands with people, talk racing, and find out who might be available to pilot his BMW M 1000 RR Superbike.

Text messages were sent, phone calls were made, and in short fashion, Alex Dumas was invited to the recent Dunlop Official Pre-Season Test at Circuit of The Americas where he spent the better part of two days testing Scheibe’s BMW.

Since Colin Fraser was in on the ground floor of this development, he wrote a story about it for InsideMotorcycles.com, which is dubbed “Canada’s Source For Motorcycle News.”

We’ll let Fraser take it from here, so please CLICK HERE to read his story about Alex Dumas.
