MotoAmerica Supersport rider Gus Rodio went over to the United Kingdom last week to compete in this past weekend’s Bennetts British Superbike Pirelli National SportBike Championship at Donington Park, Castle Donington, England. He was aboard a Suzuki GSX-8R for the first time in his career, and he was sponsored by luxeStar VIP and its founder Scott Rehl, who is based in Palm Beach, Florida.

For Rodio, it was his first time racing at Donington Park, first time on a Suzuki GSX-8R, and first time racing on Pirelli tires. Photo by Ian Hopgood.

In addition, Rodio was competing at Donington Park for the first time in his racing career and on Pirelli tires, which was also a first for the New Jersey-based rider.

Despite the steep learning curve, Rodio was up to the challenge and adapted quickly. He qualified 20th on the grid and improved to a 12th-place finish in Sunday’s race. Rodio recorded the overall fastest lap of the race on the final lap, and he wished he had a few more laps to move closer to the front once he found his pace on the Suzuki.

Rodio would like to thank the following for supporting him at Donington Park: Scott Rehl of luxeStar VIP for his unwavering support, Mats Petersson for providing the bike and infrastructure, John Thornley for his top-tier mechanical expertise, mechanic Rich Marshall, Holly “The Brolly” Harris, BigMoto, Classic Team Suzuki, Team GB Racing, HEL Performance, EBC Brakes, Envy Racing Apparel, and of course, his father Kevin Rodio.
