Righteous Racin’ will return to Twins Cup competition at Road America on May 29 through 31 in tribute to the late Ray Hofman, who was the team’s captain and lead racer. The tribute brings Hofman’s racing legacy full circle.

Jody Barry will race the Aprilia RS 660 that Hofman purchased new from a small Wisconsin dealership a few years ago. It’s the same bike that Hofman put Barry on during their first season together, and it’s also the machine that Hofman himself raced in the MotoAmerica Twins Cup Championship.

“Ray saw potential in everything and everyone,” commented one of the Righteous Racin’ crewmembers. “He saw it in Jody, he saw it in that RS 660, and he saw it in this team. We’re the same old Midwest crew having the same old kind of fun, but this time we’re doing it for Ray at our home track.”

Righteous Racin’ has partnered with Bison and PopShadow Decals and Wraps for the Road America effort. Commemorative shirts are available through Bison, including a limited edition “Ride Like Ray” memorial shirt and the official Righteous Racin’ team shirt. All of the proceeds from the sale of the shirts will benefit the Motor Racing Outreach Association (MROA). Supporters unable to attend Road America are also encouraged to purchase shirts to honor Ray’s memory.

“Ray was the most giving person we knew,” the crewmember added. “Positive, can-do, always pushing us to go faster and go further. We made cross-country memories that’ll last forever. This past year without him has been tough, but we can feel him watching over us. This one’s for you, Ray.”

Hofman grew up on a small family farm in Wisconsin, and he was drawn to anything with speed: aviation, farm equipment, and motorcycles. After leaving farm life behind, he joined Sam’s Well Drilling in Randolph, Wisconsin, working year-round in brutal Midwest conditions and eventually became a part owner of the company. Hofman finally got his first bike and spent years watching races before finally making it to the track himself. What followed was a string of ASRA and CCS victories, then the leap to MotoAmerica Twins Cup, first on a Suzuki SV650, then on the Aprilia.

The Road America tribute effort is made possible through support from Sam’s Well Drilling, Bison, Arai Helmet Americas, Liqui Moly, PopShadow Decals and Wraps Inc., Thrashed Bike Racing, Max Flinders, Robem Engineering, and Aprilia USA.
